Common Diseases of Falyimoar

There are many diseases that plague the inhabitants of this continent. A few of the most well known diseases across Falyimoar are Cackle Fever, The Blue Death, Wirdholz, and Dragon Madness. These diseases are the most well known because they are known to affect most if not all humanoid races, and have decimated populations extremely quickly if not contained.

Cackle Fever
This disease targets humanoids, although gnomes are strangely immune. While in the grips of this disease, victims frequently succumb to fits of mad laughter.

Symptoms manifest 1d4 hours after infection and include fever and disorientation. The infected creature gains one level of Exhaustion that can't be removed until the disease is cured.

The Blue Death

An disease that causes vibrant blue bruises to form all across the victims body, inside in out. These bruises then develop into large blisters that pop in the victims lungs and drowning them in pus.

Symptoms manifest 1d6 days after infection and gains 1 level of Exhaustion for every day survive with the disease that can't be removed until the disease is cured.

Wirdholz

A magical disease that gradually replaces the victims body with wood, until they become a wooden statue that is incapable of speech or movement, but is still alive and aware. This disease is transmitted through bodily fluids, or if you get cut by the wood of the victim.

Symptoms being to manifest 1d20 hours after infection, beginning as a thickening of the skin in the infected area, the disease spreads 1d4 inches across the victims body every day.

The spread of the disease can be stopped, but not reversed. Leaving victims with large wooden patches that have replaced their flesh and skin. Until the disease has fully infected the host they retain a full range of motion and can still feel the texture and weight of objects though they cannot feel pain in the affected areas.

Dragon Madness

Dragon madness, despite what its name suggests, can be contracted by nearly all sufficiently intelligent creatures. This disease causes the victim to obsessively collect a type of object that is valuable to the victim. The disease stems from a curse laid upon a greedy dragon, who sought to hoard all the worlds riches and hide them away.

This disease spreads when a someone touches what a carrier of the disease values most in their collection. They become overwhelmed with in insatiable desire to collect and gather previous objects, and become paranoid that someone might steal them at a rate proportional to the size of their hoard.

Symptoms begin to manifest minutes after infection, notably marked by sudden nausea, dizziness, and headache that subside after about an hour.

This disease is most commonly found in dragons because with their long life spans and immense power, there are not many who could stand to steal from their hoard.

There are only two known ways to cure someone of Dragon Madness, the first you have to kill them and cast reincarnation on them. And the second you have to destroy what it is they value most. This can be accomplished by someone else or by the person with the disease.

Festival of the Sun's Rebirth

Celebrated through out Burgdalin this holiday celebrates the winter solstice as the last day of the year, and the dawning of new year, and a new sun. In their belief the god of the sun, Solaris, dies the end of each year, being reborn each year, bringing a brighter and warmer season with him. This belief is used as a means to explain the changing of the seasons, with a reborn Solaris who grows in strength, thus warming the world, with the fall and winter being his decay into old age before his rebirth. There are some who believe that on the night of the solstice, if you follow the path of the first fallen star to its lowest point you will find a mighty phoenix that nurtures Solaris through his infancy, and if you offer the phoenix a special object it will reward you with a boon for aiding it in its journey to revive the sun king Solaris.

Festival of the Sun's Rebirth Pt 2

This festival is celebrated with a feast hosted by the whole village, with most dishes including preserved foods such as jams, jellies, pickled foods, honeys, as well as a flavorful herb that blooms on the day of the winter solstice, making it an elusive ingredient that must be dried from the last year or picked just before the feast.

Quite a few villages make an event out of gathering this herb, rewarding whoever can gather the most before the feast is cooked with the first dish of the feast, and a gift from the lord of the village. After the feast when night falls, the villagers all gather together and watch for a fallen star. When the first star of the night falls they watch where it falls, then they light candles and lanterns, marching towards where the star fell. Once the stars stop falling they create a small shrine to Solaris, offering all of their light to the sun king, to aid in his revival.
