Benevolent often ones counsel kings and queens, while evil ones rule themselves as tyrants, often pursuing Lichdom. Those who care not for the squabbles of the average person and choose sequester themselves in remote towers to practice their magic without interruption. An archmage typically has one or more apprentice mages, and an Archmage's abode typically has numerous magical wards and guardians to discourage interlopers.

The most ancient Archmages have watched as centuries flew by them, how magic evolved, and broke down, most of the Archmages who have lived for such a length while devoted to the study of the arcane possess powerful forbidden magic that has been lost to the majority of the world.
