Capital Punishments of Burgdalin

There are few things that can land you with capital punishment in Burgdalin, and at times criminals have been forced into harsher punishments than death. There are 4 main categories of capital punishment in Burgdalin, torture, execution, undeath, transfiguration.

The torture catagory is meant to put the criminal through excruciating pain before their death, like slowly boiling them in tar, putting them in a barrel full of leaches until their sucked dry, stretching their limbs until they break, or placing buckets of rats against their limbs and heating one end.

Execution is fairly simple, its simply meant to kill the criminal. For this category there are hundreds of methods to choose from, but most seek to kill quickly, cleanly, and efficiently, such as by cutting off their head with a guillotine, hanging them, stabbing them in the head or heart, driving a spike through their eyes, burying them, burning them or through crucifixion.

Undeath is for those whose death could not nearly approximate the damage that they had caused. Those who face this punishment are kill and revived as an undead servants to the crown of Burgdalin and are often put into the military as infantry, they require no sustenance, can speak and retain their original mind, however they are unable to go against the commands of the crown, or those who raised them or else the will lose control over their mind, and only follow the commands they are given.

Transfiguration, this has three kinds, floral, faunal and inanimate. Some criminals will be turned into a sentient plant, an animal or simply an object as a means of keeping their soul conscious and in the material plane so that it may be used for magical purposes such as for certain enchantments. After about a hundred years they will have completely forgotten who they are, what they are and how they came to be. There are many animate objects that were created this way, and many of the living weapons that are used in Burgdalin's military are derived from powerful criminals who were subject to captial punishment.
